Salz dient als Grundstoff für viele Werkstoffe. Weiters wird Salz zu Chlor und Natronlauge verarbeitet. Chlor ist beispielsweise ein Hilfsstoff bei der Produktion von Farben und Lacken.
Salz ist ein wichtiger Grundstoff für verschiedenste Werkstoffe. So benötigt man Salz etwa zur Erzeugung von Kunststoffen, Glas und Aluminium. Ein nicht unbeträchtlicher Teil unserer Produktion geht als sogenanntes Industriesalz in diese Bereiche. Darüber hinaus wird ein großer Teil unseres Salzes in der chemischen Industrie verarbeitet. Dabei wird das Industriesalz mittels Elektrolyse in Natronlauge (NaOH) und Chlor (Cl2) aufgespaltet.
Vom Industriesalz zu Chlor
Chlor ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil vieler Kunststoffarten. Außerdem wird es zur Wasseraufbereitung und zur Wasserdesinfektion verwendet. Als Hilfsstoff und Reaktionspartner benötigt man Chlor auch zur Erzeugung von Farben und Lacken sowie für den Pflanzenschutz und für Arzneimittel.
Aus Industriesalz wird Natronlauge
Natronlauge findet vor allem in der Aluminiumerzeugung Anwendung. Außerdem wird es als Bleichmittel in der Papierindustrie, sowie als Grundstoff in der Seifen- und Waschmittelproduktion verwendet. Eine Umwandlung von Natronlauge in Soda ist ohne weiteres möglich und erfolgt je nach Marktbedarf. Soda benötigt man vor allem in der Glaserzeugung, denn Glas entsteht durch Verschmelzung von Soda, Kalk und Quarzsand. Der als Nebenprodukt entstehende Wasserstoff (H2) wird vor allem in der Metallurgie und zur Erzeugung von Salzsäure (HCl) und Computerchips verwendet.
