Salinen Austria acquires Slovenian salt trader

Over the past years, the Prosol d.o.o., which is based in Laibach, has established itself as the leading company on the Slovenian salt market. By adding the Slovenian company to its portfolio, Salinen Austria will considerably strengthen its position on the European salt market.

In addition to supplying the domestic market, Prosol also exports to many European regions, including Bosnia, Macedonia, Croatia and Northern Italy. Marjan Gregorc, Executive Director and owner of the Prosol d.o.o., plans to gradually retire from the salt business and is selling 80 % of his shares in the company to the Salinen International. For a period of three years, Gregorc will retain a 20 % stake in the company, running it together with the Executive Director of the Salinen Maribor, Mr Ales Postik. At present, the Austrian salt group is only represented on the Slovenian market through its subsidiary Salinen d.o.o. in Maribor/Slovenia.

The two companies dovetail perfectly: While Salinen Maribor focuses mainly on its customers in trade and industry and the production of de-icing salt for winter services, Prosol supplies the three biggest food retail chains in Slovenia. The takeover of Prosol d.o.o. enables the two companies to exploit synergies, while at the same time, the Slovenian market can function as a bridgehead allowing access to further markets in Southern and South-Eastern Europe. Its existing subsidiaries in Hungary (Salinen Budapest), in Croatia (Salinen Varazdin), in the Czech Republic (Salinen Praha) and in Italy (Salinen Italia) will play a significant role here.

Prosol sells, processes and packs around 11,000 tonnes of salt per year and has an annual turnover of approximately 2 m euros.
